Holland Park
Mosque, in
Brisbane,
has secured
the purchase
of the
property
next door, a
total of
1900 square
metres which
includes a
car park,
double
storey hall,
double story
church and
two double
storey
houses. The
Salvation
Army
property has
been
negotiated
at a total
cost of $2
million to
be paid by
the end of
this year.
With the
$200 000
deposit
having been
paid and
pledges
coming in,
there is an
amount of
$1,609,000
still
to be
raised.
"This is a
once-in-a-lifetime
opportunity
and we
cannot let
it pass," a
spokesperson
for the
Islamic
Society of
Holland Park
told CCN.
The contract
to purchase
the property
has gone
unconditional
and the
Society is
making every
effort to
meet its
financial
obligations
with the
help of the
community in
the 6 weeks
remaining.
There are
three ways
of
contributing
financially:
1. An
immediate
donation of
any amount
2. A pledge
of a period
payment
through a
debit order
3. An
interest-free
load payable
by the
Society by
30 December
2013
"If
we don't
purchase it,
the Salvation
Army are
talking
about
developing
the property
by building
units. This would
seriously
curtail any
future plans
for Holland
Park. That
is why it is
so important
to gather
the funds to
purchase the
property.
Failure is
not an
option."

USA: American Muslims have
hailed the downfall of candidates known for
their hostile tone against the sizable
minority and their religion in Congressional
elections this week.
"These encouraging results clearly show that
mainstream Americans reject anti-Muslim
bigotry by candidates for public office and
will demonstrate that rejection at the
polls," Nihad Awad, National Executive
Director of the umbrella Council on
American-Islamic Relations (CAIR) said.
Congressional election on
Tuesday, November 6, saw the fall of
candidates known for their hostile rhetoric
against Muslims.
UK: BBC News reports that a statue is to be
installed in central London as a tribute to
an Indian Muslim woman, Noor Inayat Khan,
who worked as a spy in France during WW2,
aiding the war effort for the allied powers.
She was tortured by the Gestapo and shot
dead by the Germans in 1944. The unveiling
of a monument erected in her memory comes
days before Armistice Day on Sunday 11th
November.
Ms Khan was posthumously
awarded the George Cross for her work in
France and for revealing nothing of use to
her interrogators despite being tortured by
the Gestapo for 10 months.
“Although she carried a passport of an
imperial subject, she had no innate loyalty
to Britain. But she did have a strong
aversion to fascism.
“A fluent French speaker, Ms Khan joined
Britain's sabotage force, the Special
Operations Executive (SOE), and became the
first female radio operator sent into France
in 1943, with the famous instruction to "set
Europe ablaze".
“The role was so dangerous that she arrived
in Paris with a life expectancy of just six
weeks.”

GEORGE Megalogenis introduces
his book with a bold claim:
''What if we are 'the last best
hope on Earth' … The nation that
reflects the best of the world
back to it?'' This claim is
based almost entirely on
superior management of the
economy during the past 40
years, a ''pragmatic version of
deregulation''.
The bulk of The Australian
Moment, however, is a detailed
and rather economist account of
mainstream politics during the
past 40 years. Megalogenis is
one of the country's sanest
political journalists, with a
genuine ability to analyse
without the preconceived biases
of many of his stablemates. But
in the end his views reflect the
dominant consensus of the
chattering classes: Hawke is the
best post-Menzies leader because
he led the way in deregulating
the economy.
Megalogenis hints that there
were - and remain - costs to
deregulation, usually through
rather vague claims about a
growing selfishness of
Australian culture. What is
missing is the link between the
government policies he admires
and the growing inequality about
which he professes some unease,
and which Wayne Swan has
recently tried to introduce into
political debate.

A:
This works like a dream. All you need is a brown
paper-bag and a peg. Do not use a plastic bag.
Simply cover the cluster of tomatoes when very small
(marble size) Only remove the bag to inspect the
fruit occasionally. You will be amazed at the
flawless quality once the tomatoes are ripe. This
technique works equally well with dodhi, mango and
grapes.
Q: Dear Kareema, I have a shoulder injury but
really do not want to stop exercising. Any suggestions?
A: Our shoulders are highly mobile joints which means
it is prone to injury through repetitive exercises or weight
training.
Try to avoid activities with the arms above the shoulders
until it settles.
You can safely maintain cardiovascular fitness with
stationary bikes, treadmills, heading for the pool, or just
simply walking. Be sure to visit your doctor and have it
checked out.
