On
the evening of Saturday 15th
June 2013, the Australian
International Islamic
College held its annual
Family Fun Night. The annual
event is a chance for
students, parents, teachers
and members of the community
to come and enjoy a meal
together and catch up with
friends and colleagues, both
past and present.
"Alhamdulillah, this year
our annual dinner was a
wonderful success," a
spokesperson for the school
told CCN.
There was a
formal program consisting of
Nasheeds, Science
Experiments, an Islamic and
general knowledge quiz and a
very popular Lucky Draw.
The evening took place in
the Multi-purpose hall,
which was filled to
capacity, Also on display
was an Art Exhibition of
student work as well as a
textile displays from the
Home Economics students. A
variety of stall holders and
rides for the children
ensured young and old were
entertained on the night.
"A big thank
you must go to all our
sponsors who were kind
enough to donate vouchers
and items for the Lucky
Draw. A big shout out goes
to: Nandos Mt. Gravatt,
Bliss Skin Care Centre,
Lezzet Restaurant, Mary Kay
Cosmetics, Phoenix Cards and
Mrs Muncaster," the AICC
spokesperson said.
"It was indeed wonderful to
see so many of our students
who have come to Australia
from new migrant and refugee
backgrounds enjoy themselves
in a relaxed and welcoming
atmosphere. Thank you to all
those who helped make the
event an enjoyable and
successful evening.
Inshaallah, we’ll see you
again next year!"
In an
unprecedented
move aimed
at
preventing
congestion
and
stampedes
and ensuring
safety of
the guests
of God,
Saudi
authorities
have urged
domestic and
foreign
pilgrims to
postpone
their Haj
plans for
this year if
possible due
to ongoing
expansion
work at
Makkah’s
Grand
Mosque.
The call
follows the
government’s
decision to
reduce the
number of
foreign
pilgrims by
20 percent
and domestic
pilgrims 50
percent this
year. Grand
Mufti Sheikh
Abdul Aziz
Al-Asheikh
has backed
the measure,
saying it
was taken in
public
interest.
In a series
of
announcements
through the
Holy Qur’an
television
channel,
which is
aired from
Makkah, the
government
advised
pilgrims
intending to
perform Haj
and Umrah
this year to
postpone
their plans
to reduce
congestion
at the Grand
Mosque.
“By making
this
announcement
our
government
is not
preventing
anybody from
Haj, but
asking them
to postpone
in order to
avoid
congestion
and help
first-time
Hajis to
perform
their
religious
duties
without
difficulties,”
Saeed Al-Qurashi,
a member of
the Haj &
Umrah
Committee at
Makkah
Chamber of
Commerce and
Industry,
told Arab
News.
He
said the
mataf (the
circumambulation
area around
the Holy
Kaaba) could
hold now
only 39,000
faithful per
hour,
suggesting
an influx of
a large
number of
pilgrims
could cause
congestion
inside the
mosque.
“Once the
mataf
expansion is
completed,
it can
accommodate
more than
130,000
pilgrims per
hour. So, it
would be
better for
our brethren
to come for
Haj next
year or
after two
years, when
they will be
able to
perform
their
rituals with
ease,” he
explained.
Hatem Qadi,
deputy Haj
minister and
spokesman of
the
ministry,
emphasized
the need for
reducing the
number of
foreign and
domestic
pilgrims
this year.
“The period
for cutting
the number
of pilgrims
will not
exceed two
years,” he
said. The
ongoing
expansion
work at the
two holy
mosques are
aimed at
accommodating
more
pilgrims in
the coming
years, he
pointed out.
Qadi cited
the grand
mufti’s
statement on
the issue
saying the
government
took the
decision
because it
was
essential.
“The ongoing
expansion is
for the
benefit of
pilgrims,”
the mufti
said.
Mohammed
Noor Rahman
Sheikh,
Indian
consul for
Haj, said
his country
would send
more than
170,000
pilgrims
this year.
“We have
been
informed
about the
government’s
plan to cut
the number
of foreign
pilgrims by
20 percent,”
he told Arab
News.
The Islamic
Society of
Toowoomba's
"thank you"
lunch and
tour of the
proposed
Church
property
(currently
under
contract)
drew a
number of
visitors to
the Garden
City of
Queensland
on Saturday.
The speeches
by Dr
Mohamad
Abdalla,
Minister of
Agriculture,
Food and
Forestry
Queensland,
Dr John
MeVeigh,
Catholic
Bishop
Robert
McGuckin,
USQ’s Vice
Chancellor
Professor
Jan Thomas,
and Dr Nada
Ibrahim all
highlighted
the need and
support for
the project.
Young
children
entertained
the guests
with
delightful
songs and
Prof
Shahjahan
Khan, the
president of
the IST,
thanked
their
mentors and
the everyone
else
associated
with the
project.
Soon after
the signing
of the
contract,
the Society
also issued
a
media
release
thanking the
city of
Toowoomba
"for being
inclusive
and
supportive"
of the
initiative.
Last
year a group
of
volunteers
distributed
1000 white
roses in
Queens
Street Mall,
Brisbane.
The aim of
the
distribution
was to
promote
peace,
harmony and
understanding
amongst the
wider
Australian
Community.
It was also
aimed to
highlight
the true
qualities of
our beloved
Prophet
Muhammad (s.a.w.)
and not as
was
portrayed by
a video
circulating
around the
globe on
social
media.
Each rose
distributed
had with it
attached a
card
containing a
Hadith or
Quranic Ayah
promoting
the Prophet
(s.a.w.) and
his true
qualities.
I wish to
say that the
success of
this event
goes to each
and every
person out
there who
supported us
in one way
or another
last year.
We say a big
THANK YOU.
May the
almighty
reward you
for your
efforts,
Aameen.
The
positive
response and
success of
the
distribution
is still
being echoed
today.
With this in
mind, and
the urging
from some,
it has been
decided to
run this
event again
this year.
This year
with your
support
Insha Allah,
we aim to do
it bigger
and better
by
distributing
2000 roses.
We will be
adding a new
dimension to
it by also
distributing
2000 white
ribbons. The
White
Ribbons are
recognised
as the
symbol for
“Non
Violence
Against
Women”.
Sadly there
is a poor
understanding
within the
wider
Australian
Community
regarding
Muslim Women
and
oppression.
We wish to
highlight
the true and
correct
respects
afforded to
Muslim Women
by means of
Hadith and
Quranic
Ayahs on a
card
attached to
a White
Ribbon.
Your support
financially
and morally
would be
greatly
appreciated.

Mohammad Khan
(right) and Shabir Basha from the Islamic
Propagation Centre International, South
Africa at the Juma Al Majid Centre for
Culture and Heritage on Saturday in the UAE
where the book was launched.
A book
detailing
the life of
Shaikh Ahmad
Deedat, one
of Islam’s
greatest
scholars and
missionaries,
has been
released.
Titled
“Ahmed
Deedat: The
Man and His
Mission,”
the 280-page
book was
written by
university
history
lecturer and
author
Goolam Vahed
and
published by
the Islamic
Propagation
Centre
International
(IPCI), an
organisation
founded by
Deedat in
1957 and
based in
South
Africa.
“The book
entails the
life of
Shaikh Ahmad
Deedat from
the time he
arrived in
South Africa
at the age
of nine
years. As he
lived in
South
Africa, he
took up
menial jobs
and worked
in a
factory. He
was highly
disturbed by
Christian
missionaries
knocking on
the doors of
Muslims [to
share their
faith] in
South Africa
at that
time,”
Shabir Basha,
IPCI
representative,
told Gulf
News.
From that
point on,
Deedat
studied
comparative
religion and
equipped
himself to
propagate
Islam. The
South
African
writer and
public
speaker of
Indian
origin
dedicated 40
years of his
life to
mission work
in South
Africa and
the rest of
the world.
He was best
known for
his message,
“Come into
the light,
or stay in
the dark.
The choice
is yours,”
in many of
his public
lectures to
spread
Islam.
Through
Deedat’s
life-long
work,
several
thousands of
people
embraced
Islam. He
was awarded
the King
Faisal
International
Award in
1986 in
recognition
of his
dedication
to mission
work. He
passed away
in 2005. He
suffered a
stroke for
nine years
earlier.
Basha said
the book,
available in
English and
distributed
free of
charge, was
published to
reconnect
the world
with the
scholar, to
remember and
honour him,
and “to pay
respect to
him in that
to date his
works are
very much
appreciated
and
studied”.
PARIS:
Emotions are running high after a young
pregnant woman was attacked for just being a
Muslim. Protestors have gathered at the town
hall of Argenteuil and they are calling for
justice. The woman who was attacked in broad
daylight in front of a clinic suffered a
miscarriage.
Hundreds have gathered in front of town hall
of Argenteuil just next to Paris and many
people here say, racist attacks by Neo Nazi
groups are on the rise. The main targets of
these groups are Muslim women.
Rabia, who revealed only her first name, was
attacked last month. And she says the
attacks have a strikingly common threat.
The mayor of Argenteuil has strongly
condemned the attacks saying there is no
place for Islamophobia in his town. But
residents who have gathered in protest
believe, groups of skinheads have been
spotted in some of the town's central
locations.
Neo Nazi groups have become more visible in
France since they joined the anti-gay
marriage demonstrations in January this
year. And they have attacked even those
French who support the rights of ethnic and
religious minorities in the country.
The French government says it will enforce a
ban on groups, which call for racial purity.
But the big question remains: will a ban be
enough to prevent further attacks on Muslims
and other minorities at the hands of extreme
right wing groups.
Egypt
slams 'Bible-burning' Islamist preacher with
11-year sentence
EGYPT:
Court rules on religion charges raised
against Abu Islam following 2012 'Innocence
of Muslims' demonstration during which
Bibles were desecrated; son also punished
An Egyptian
misdemeanours court has issued an 11 year
prison sentence to Islamist preacher Ahmed
Abdullah (AKA Abu Islam) (pictured left)
on charges of insulting religion and burning
the Bible.
Abu Islam, who is the head of two Islamic
satellite TV channels – the Umma and Mariya
– has also been fined LE3000, but the
verdict will be suspended pending appeal.
The court also sentenced Islam, Abu-Islam's
son, to eight years in prison and fined him
LE 2000 for taking part in burning the Bible
with his father. This sentence is also
suspended pending appeal.
During an 11 September 2012 demonstration in
front the US embassy in Cairo protesting the
anti-Islam film "Innocence of Muslims," the
Muslim cleric publicly burned copies of the
Bible. Before leaving the demonstration, he
told the crowd that he would later send his
grandson to urinate on the Bible.
Last week, Amnesty International expressed
concern over the increasing number of
charges for blasphemy and insulting religion
in Egypt.
Amnesty stated that the majority of those
targeted by such accusations in Egypt are
Coptic Christians.
In February 2013, the prosecutor general
ordered Abu Islam's arrest for allegedly
insulting Christianity.
'Allah
will punish you all!': Terror at mosque as
worshipers and policeman slashed with
machete by 'Taser-proof' madman after row
over whether they were praying properly
UK:
A Somali Muslim allegedly stabbed a
policeman and three mosque worshippers after
screaming: ‘Allah is going to punish you
all.’
The
32-year-old is said to have tried to kill
the worshippers during an argument over
whether they were praying correctly.
It is thought
the man, who was not a regular at the mosque
in Birmingham, became upset because the
prayers were not being performed in the
manner of his denomination.
One witness,
who asked not to be named, said: ‘I heard
shouting behind me as I was praying. I
turned around and saw two men grappling with
each other.
‘Suddenly a
man pulled out a knife and stabbed the other
man in the leg, near the groin.
'Someone
tried to intervene but the man just went for
him and thrust a knife into his abdomen. It
was absolutely terrifying.’
Minutes later
two police officers, one male and one
female, arrived at the Madrasah
Qasim-ul-Uloom mosque in Ward End and the
man allegedly ran at them with a large
combat knife.
Despite the
male officer shooting him with a Taser, the
man is said to have stabbed him in his chest
and stomach.
An off-duty
surgeon who happened to be at prayers fought
to keep them alive before paramedics
arrived.
Another
witness said: ‘He shouted “Allah is going to
punish you all”. He stabbed two people then
one guy restrained him and someone called
the police.’
The suspect
was being held yesterday in a mental health
facility on suspicion of attempted murder.

The average Australian consumers around 8/9 times more
salt than they need. Some foods contain higher amounts
of salt than you expect. For example cornflakes have 532
mg of salt, that is more than 1/5 of your daily intake!
Here are 10 easy tips:
1) Read food labels when shopping . Salt will be listed
under Sodium on the Nutrition panel
2) Buy reduced salt breads and cereals
3) Avoid highly processed products (particularly instant
products)
4) Make your own sauces- soy sauce, mayo & salad
dressings
5) Limit your consumption of salt snacks
6) Cut back on processed meats - sausages, smoked
salmon, salami
7) Cook with fresh or frozen veg. Canned veg have added
salt
8) Replace salt in cooking with lemon juice, spices,
herbs & olive oil
9) Put away the salt shaker on the table !!
10) Eat takeaway foods occasionally and choose low salt
options when possible.
He was standing outside the local KFC when he saw
Jallaluddin and Halimuddin walking by so he stops them
and asks, "Entschuldigung, koennen Sie Deutsch sprechen?"
The two men look at each other blankly and stare back at
him.
"Excusez-moi, parlez vous Français ?" he tries.
The two continue to stare.
"Parlare Italiano?" Still absolutely no response from
the two men.
"Hablan ustedes Espanol?" Jallaluddin and Halimuddin
remain totally silent.
The Swiss gentleman walks off extremely disappointed and
downhearted that he had not been understood.
Halimuddin turns to Jallaluddin and says, "You know,
maybe we should learn a foreign language!"
"Why?" says Jallaluddin, "That man knew four languages,
and it didn't do him any good!"
