UK: British
counter-terrorism police chiefs are making
an unprecedented appeal to Muslim women to
persuade their relatives not to go to Syria
to fight.
The national campaign for women to intervene
follows a string of deaths of UK men who
joined Syria's civil war against President
Assad's regime.
Co-ordinated events are being held in
London, Birmingham and Manchester.
Critics and campaigners questioned whether
the police were trusted enough to get their
message across.
'Major risk'
Security chiefs think hundreds of people
have travelled from the UK to fight in
Syria, some of whom have returned.
Forty people have been arrested for alleged
Syria-related offences during the first
three months of this year - almost double
the number held during the whole of 2013,
police said.
And reports suggest up to 20 men from
Britain have died in the conflict.
Recent deaths have included Crawley
father-of-three Abdul Waheed Majeed - who
became the first British suicide bomber in
the war - and a teenager from Brighton.
Star of Ukip advert
suspended for calling Miliband 'not
British', attacking 'evil' Islam and saying
Africans should 'kill themselves'... and he
is from ZIMBABWE
UK:
Ukip has suspended the star of its first
European election TV broadcast after it
emerged that he condemned Ed Miliband as
‘not a real Brit’, suggested Africans should
‘kill themselves off’ and said Islam was an
evil religion with a paedophile prophet.
Andre Lampitt (pictured left) also
said he loathed the charity Oxfam and
welcomed Aids outbreaks in Africa, saying:
‘Inner peace will come when Aids does what
it should and reduce African density.’
Like party leader Nigel Farage, he said he
admired Russian leader Vladimir Putin,
adding: ‘At least Putin loves his country.
David Cameron does not love Britain, he
loves the EU.’
Ukip said it was ‘shocked’ by
his views, which will embarrass the party as
it prepares for local elections next month –
with Mr Lampitt standing as a councillor in
Merton, South London.
The builder, who describes himself as ‘born
British in Rhodesia’, was one of five
supporters hand-picked to appear in a
prime-time television campaign starting this
week.
He was featured in the broadcast criticising
immigration from the EU, saying: ‘Since the
lads from Eastern Europe are prepared to
work for a lot less than anybody else, I’ve
found it a real struggle.’
Yesterday, the party said it
was suspending him after discovering he had
expressed ‘repellent’ views in a series of
potentially unlawful messages on Twitter
over recent months.
In one tweet he claimed that Islam was not a
religion and called it an ‘evil organisation
respecting a prophet who as a pedo.’[sic]
He added: ‘All Muslims need to leave
Europe... or denounce their pathetic satanic
religion.’
Another message insisted:
‘Most Nigerians are generally bad people...
I grew up in Africa and dare anyone to prove
me wrong.’
He suggested Africans should be ‘left to
‘kill themselves off’ and suggested people
should ‘get over’ slavery, which he said was
an ‘act of war’.

Baked Italian Lemon Cheesecake
Ingredients
Sweet Shortcrust
300g plain flour
120g icing sugar
pinch of sea salt
1 lemon zest
120g unsalted butter, cold and diced
2 egg yolks
(ALL the above ingredients need to be cold)
Cheesecake
500g ricotta
½ cup plain flour
½ tsp sea salt
½ tsp vanilla paste or seeds scraped from 1
vanilla bean
4 eggs, separated
2 lemons, zest
1 cup pure cream
1 cup castor sugar
Method
1. Shortcrust:
Place the flour, icing sugar, salt and lemon
zest in a food processor and pulse together.
Add the butter and process until crumbly.
Drizzle egg yolks in
and pulse until pastry starts to form a ball –
don’t over process. Add a little iced water if
the pastry is too dry.
Place the pastry on
a bench and gently knead together. Form a disc
and wrap in cling film.
Refrigerate pastry
for 30 minutes before using.
Preheat the oven to 170 degrees.
Grease a 23cm spring form baking tin.
Roll out pastry on a
floured bench and cut to fit baking tin. Press
into base and sides.
Place the pastry
lined baking tin in the fridge for 10 minutes
and then remove and blind bake for 8 minutes.
Remove and fill with cheesecake mixture.
2. Cheesecake mixture:
Place ricotta, flour, salt, yolks and vanilla in
a stand mixer with a paddle attachment and beat
to smooth.
Gradually add cream
and lemon zest and incorporate.
Beat egg white to
soft peaks and rain in the sugar until a stiff
meringue forms – about 5 minutes on a high
speed.
Gently fold meringue
through ricotta mixture. Fill pastry case and
bake for 40 minutes or until firm to touch.
Q: Dear Kareema, is it
possible to over exercise? And if so, how do you
know that you are over doing it?
A: The short answer is yes.
Symptoms include constantly
feeling exhausted, or falling ill every so
often, and can even include being moody.
If you’re slogging it out at the
gym for hours at a time, start re-thinking your
approach.
Try high-intensity workouts –
which consists of short, intense bursts of
exercise with either active recovery or complete
rest in between - and can be done in as little
as 20mins.
This means you don’t have to
spend as much time at the gym working out and be
sure to take rest days between weight training
sessions.
When Mula Nasruddin was studying at the University,
there was his lecturer who felt a certain degree of
animosity towards Mula Nasruddin, and because Mula
Nasruddin never lowered his head towards him, their
'arguments' were very frequent.
One day, the lecturer was having lunch at the dining
room of the University and Mula Nasruddin came along
with his tray and sat next to the him.
The lecturer, in his arrogance, said, "Nasruddin: you do
not understand... a pig and a bird do not sit together
to eat ", to which Mula Nasruddin replies, "You do not
worry sir, I'll fly away ", and he went and sat at
another table.
On another occasion the lecturer confronted Mula
Nasruddin with the following question: "Nasruddin, if
you are walking down the street and find a package, and
within it there is a bag of wisdom and another bag with
a lot of money; which one will you take?"
Without hesitating, Mula Nasruddin responded, "The one
with the money, of course".
The lecturer, smiling, said, "I, in your place, would
have taken the wisdom, don't you think?"
"Each one takes what one doesn't have", responded Mula
Nasruddin indifferently.
On yet another occasion the lecturer writes on Mula
Nasruddin's exam sheet the word 'idiot' and gives it
back to him.
Mula Nasruddin takes the exam sheet and sits down.
A few minutes later, Mula Nasruddin goes to the lecturer
and says, "Sir, you signed the sheet, but you did not
give me the grade."
