The
Islamic Society of Eight
Mile Plains was first
established as the Islamic
Society of Rochedale, by a
small group of Bosnian
Muslim migrants in 1986. In
its early days society
comprised only 50 families
of humble means but great
vision.
Soon after setting up the
organization, in 1987, they
purchased a block of land
that they paid off in the
same year.
In 1992, to meet a growing
need of Bosnian migrants who
began to arrive in larger
numbers, the society
purchased a non-permanent
structure and placed it on
the land. With some
additional finishing touches
and effort, this facility
served its purpose for a
number of years.
However, members realized
that in order to meet
the demands of the new Bosniak
settlers who found refuge in
Brisbane, after the Bosnian
war of expulsion,
particularly from Eastern
Bosnia and parts of
Herzegovina, it was
essential think about the
construction of a larger and
more functional Islamic
Centre.
At the time Bosniak
community met their
religious and educational
needs by inviting temporary
imams from Bosnia,
particularly during the Holy
month of Ramadan.
The long existing desire for the
construction of an Islamic
centre came to fruition only
after the society employed
a full-time imam from Bosnia
and Herzegovina.
It took a few years (from
2002-2004) for all relevant
documentation to
be
finalized before the
construction could begin.
The society commissioned a
Bosnian-born architect, Mr.
Enes Stroil, to design a
first draft of the Islamic
centre. In 2005 the Society
obtained the permit from local
authorities for the construction
of a mosque and the adjacent
facilities.
The foundation
stone was laid on 25 November 2005.
Since then, the organization
invested, through the help
of the entire Muslim
Community, about $4M in construction
costs. This would have been
much higher had it not been
for generous donations and
voluntary work, as well as
building materials donated by
members.
The society
has grown by more than
ten-fold since its early
inception and now has 550
paid members which
translates into almost 2000
persons. The Muslim
Community of Brisbane who
originate from many
different countries all use
the Mosque.
The Islamic centre has been
designed with a future
vision in mind and consists
of various facilities to
cater for a modern,
well-organized and demanding
Muslim community. It
consists of a major mosque,
library, restaurant, and
specially designated youth
activities venue with small
sporting facilities,
ablution and other
installations.
Many hard-working members
and the greater Muslim
public have given their
time, money and other
valuable contribution,
whether physical work or
intellectual and
fund-raising efforts to make
this dream come true.
Without this teamwork and
selfless enthusiasm this
project would never have
been possible.
To
celebrate this great
achievement, the Executive
Committee of the Islamic
Society of Eight Mile Plains
cordially invites the
community to the Official
Opening Ceremony of the Bosniak Islamic Centre of
Brisbane.

The 9th
annual Unity
Cup 5-a side
football
competition
was held on
Sunday 26
October at
the brand
new Griffith
University
Multi
Sporting
Complex.
Sixteen
teams from
around
Brisbane and
the Gold
Coast
participated
for the
coveted
title
including
Afghanistan,
Halaqa
Squad, Young
Boys FC,
Majistas,
Bosnia, The
Tigers,
Holland Park
Hurricanes,
Predators,
J&F,
Dynamos,
Capalaba
Young Guns,
Chicky Lamba,
Gold Coast
United,
OutKast,
Bafana and
Wolpack FC.
The final
was
contested
between
Afghanistan
and J&F,
both teams
having
earned the
right to
play in the
decider with
wins against
Dynamos and
Bafana
respectively,
in the semi
finals.
At the end
of a
thoroughly
entertaining
day,
Afghanistan
were crowned
champions
with a well
deserved 8-4
win over
J&F. The
plate final
saw Majistas
victorious
with a
narrow 5-4
win over
Young Boys
FC. Despite
the
tournament
being played
on a
scorching
hot day, it
was played
in great
spirits, and
there was
plenty of
quality
football on
show.
The player
of the
tournament
award went
to Habib
Mohammadi
from
Afghanistan,
and the
goalkeeper
of the
tournament
went to Jon
Tang from
Dynamos.
This year
the event
took on
greater
significance
with all
proceeds
from the
tournament
going
towards the
Gaza Winter
Appeal. The
event was
hosted by
Famsy,
Islamic
Relief & the
Youth of
Kuraby.
Apart from
the
excitement
on the
field, there
was plenty
of fun for
families off
the field as
well. Face
painting,
henna stall,
and a food
stall kept
everyone of
all ages
entertained,
and a fun
kick around
was held for
boys between
the ages of
6 - 13
during the
lunch break.
Just over
$10 000 has
been raised
for the Gaza
Winter
Appeal
through this
event. The
chance to do
your bit
however,
always
exists, and
should you
wish to
donate or
participate
in the Gaza
Winter
Appeal in
some form,
you can
visit
Islamic
Relief
and contact
one of their
members for
more
information.
Event
organizer,
Ismail Essof,
told CCN:
"We want to
thank all
sponsors and
supporters
for their
backing in
hosting a
successful
event. Next
year will be
the 10 year
anniversary
for the
Unity Cup.
Since it's
inception,
the
competition
has been a
wonderful
initiative
uniting
young men
from a wide
array of
backgrounds
through the
camaraderie
of football.
InshaAllah,
next year
will be no
exception
and we look
forward to
another fun
and
entertaining
day of
football."

This week, a
number of
John Paul
College
students,
staff and
parents
(representing
the College)
made
history.
They
contributed
to a speech
that was
delivered to
the House of
Representatives
in
Parliament
by local
Member, Dr
Jim
Chalmers,
MP. The then
met in round
table
discussions
with a
number of
parliamentarians
from both
sides of
politics.
The students
produced a
powerful
peace video
which
delivered
the
following
message:
Here
at John
Paul
College,
we as a
Christian
Ecumenical
school
aim to
promote
unity
among
all
Christian
Denominations,
but we
also
welcome
people
from all
cultures
and
faiths.
The
recent
climate
preaches
hostility,
fear and
hate,
but the
Christian
message
teaches
grace,
love and
respect.
As a
consequence
of our
ecumenical
beliefs,
we are
challenged
to
foster
peace,
harmony
and
unity
among
all
humankind.
In our
school
community
we make
an
effort
to
accept
people
for who
they
are,
choosing
to see
the
person
and not
just
label.
Here,
racial
prejudice
and
stereotyping
has no
place in
our
hearts.
A number
of
students
wished
to voice
their
opinions
on the
violence,
religious
and
racial
prejudice
shown in
the
world
today
and
wanted
to make
their
environment
a
peaceful
place.
After
all we
only
have one
world,
one
life; so
why not
live it
together.
The
initiative
was the
brainchild
of
students
Faruk Bilgin
and Raghe
Abdii
who were
"concerned
about the
impact of
events
overseas on
the way we
treat each
other here
at home."
Following
the terror
raids the
two Year 11
students
approached
their
principal,
Mr Foster,
saying they
were "really
upset with
what was
going on and
wanted to
express what
they felt
and bring
awareness to
the JPC
family."
This led to
the
beginning of
the "Student
Unity Club "
at JPC
which,
together
with Ashraf
Solwa and
other
students,
produced a
"home made"
video
entitled
"Unity in
Diversity in
JPC".
"Their
powerful
message will
reach major
youth forums
around the
world and
the United
Nations,"
said JPC
Director of
Marketing
and
Communications,
Niki
Dowding.

Dateline
gets a rare
glimpse into
life under
sharia law
in Indonesia
- on patrol
with police
in Aceh as
they hand
out harsh
punishments
to anyone
breaking
Islamic law.
The police
chief of the
Indonesian
province of
Aceh wants
to see
people
beaten and
even killed…
not by
criminals,
but by his
officers
enforcing
sharia law.
On Tuesday’s
Dateline,
Patrick
Abboud gets
unprecedented
access to
follow
Captain
Ibrahim
Latif and
his
notorious
sharia
police as
they go out
on patrol.
A
policewoman
from Aceh
tells
Patrick,
“Women who
wear tight
clothes are
inviting bad
things to
happen to
them, such
as rape.
Actually,
crime
happens
because we
invite it.”
Women are
caned in
public for
breaking
Islamic
dress code
and men for
gambling or
drinking
alcohol -
and
punishments
are set to
get even
worse.
Captain
Latif tells
Patrick,
“The usual
punishment
for adultery
is that they
are buried
in the
ground on
the road.
The man is
buried up to
his waist at
a crossroads
and whoever
passes by
has to throw
a stone at
him until he
dies. A
married
woman would
be buried to
the neck and
be stoned
until she
dies.”
It’s an
unforgiving
enforcement
of this
Islamic
version of
law, which
has been
gradually
implemented
since Aceh
gained
autonomy in
2001.
“I have a
responsibility
to God. It’s
my job to
encourage
good and
prevent
wrong,”
Captain
Latif tells
Patrick.
Human rights
groups are
pressuring
the
Indonesian
Government
to step in,
but there’s
such fear
that even
Patrick has
to hurriedly
leave Aceh
after coming
under
scrutiny for
questioning
the law.
President of
the Islamic
Society of
Toowoomba,
Prof
Shahjahan
Khan, spoke
with Belinda
Sanders on
ABC Morning
Radio on the
Mosque Open
Day held at
the Garden
City Mosque
on 25th
October:
What the
historical
inaccuracies
in “Dracula
Untold” tell
us about the
rise of
Islamophobia.
The
vilification
of Islam has
reached such
heights that
when the
Muslim
Sultan
Mehmet II is
cast
opposite
history’s
bloodiest
psycho-tyrant,
it’s Dracula
who emerges
as the
tragic hero.
Luke Evans in Dracula Untold.
This week I
saw Dracula
Untold in
Istanbul,
with an
Italian
Turkologist
who shares
my
enthusiasm
for vampire
movies. It
was past
10pm when
the credits
rolled, and
the audience
was
disgruntled.
Outside,
Istiklal
Street was
still
booming. An
armored
police van
drove passed
us, weaving
through
indifferent
crowds.
“That film
was very
anti-Muslim,”
said my
friend. I’m
the Muslim
one in our
relationship,
but I was
trying to
shrug it
off, because
frankly what
else is new?
I do love a
good
villain, and
take some
pride in
that
black-eyed
madness the
historical
Turk is
infamous
for. So, far
from having
an objection
to my
forefathers
being cast
in a
nefarious
light, it
actually
took some
effort to
reign back
the gleeful
cackling
every time
Dominic
Cooper’s
Mehmet II
came on
screen. That
said, my
issue is one
of
historical
accuracy,
and
contemporary
significance.
Admittedly,
Hollywood is
no genius
when it
comes to
accurate
representation.
If it’s not
a
larger-than-life
action flick
where
America is
saving the
world from
aliens,
chances are
they’ll get
it all
wrong. But
why Turks?
And why now,
when all
eyes are on
Turkey, and
the country
teeters
unwillingly
on the
frontline of
impending
war? In the
current
climate of
global
political
tension and
escalating
Islamaphobia,
what
political
statement
does Dracula
Untold make
in pitting
our vampire
hero against
the armies
of Mehmet
II?
The film’s
generous use
of the word
“Turk” was
interesting.
To call an
Ottoman a
Turk is like
calling a
Roman an
Italian.
True, the
Ottoman
sultans were
of Turkic
origin. But
the empire
was much too
big, much
too
ethnically
diverse to
be called
Turkish.
In the Age
of
Enlightenment,
“Turk”,
“Moor” and
“Mohammedan”
were
interchangeable
terms which
basically
meant
Muslim. When
an
Englishman
adopted the
Islamic
faith (and
records hint
that there
was an
influx of
“apostates”
during the
Jacobean
period) he
was said to
have “turned
Turk”.
Europe
wasn’t
merely
compromised
by the
economic and
military
might of the
civilised
Muslim
world. It
was
compromised
by the
reality of
Islam as a
fast-spreading
faith which
bore
alarming
similarities
to the
Judeo-Christian
revelation.
It was
appealing.
Glamorised
even, by
wealthy,
cultivated
Muslim
travelers
hailing from
exotic
lands. The
wide use of
“Turk” then,
was an
attempt to
tribalise
the Islamic
faith and
associate it
with
foreign,
potentially
threatening
powers,
which were
the common
enemy.
I’ll fill
you in on
some more
history.
Vlad Dracul
II of the
house of
Draculesti
sought
support from
the Ottoman
Sultan in
his claim to
the
Wallachian
throne. To
put him on
it, the
Ottomans
waged war
with
Dracul’s
enemies. In
return,
Dracul
willingly
offered them
not one, but
two of his
sons: Vlad
Tepes
Dracula and
Radu cel
Frumos – aka
Radu the
handsome.
While Vlad
Tepes went
on to become
the
progenitor
of the
vampire
myth, his
brother
would remain
loyal to the
Sultan, and
his
childhood
friend,
Mehmet II. A
skilled and
celebrated
general,
Radu proved
invaluable
in the
conquest of
Istanbul.
And when
Vlad Tepes
started
wreaking
carnage
across the
Balkans,
Mehmet II
dispatched
Radu to
quell his
brother’s
blood-thirst.
Vlad’s
insurrection
was not
dissimilar
to the
terror
tactics of
the
so-called
Islamic
State. He
killed
indiscriminately:
Men, women
and
children;
Turks and
Bulgarians;
Muslims and
sympathising
Christians
alike were
put to the
stake. He
boasted of
his cruelty
to the
horror of
his foes and
allies. And
having been
raised among
Muslims, he
had the
advantage of
disguise.
During their
guerilla
attacks, his
men were
dressed in
Ottoman
uniforms. He
talked
Turkish,
walked
Turkish and
burned
villages to
the ground.
The brothers
battled
long, but
Radu was
victorious.
Vlad Tepes
fled to
Hungary,
where he
sought
sanctuary
with the
Corvinus
clan. But
frankly
they’d also
had enough
of his
grizzly
antics, so
they
imprisoned
him on
charges of
treason.
True story.
Fast forward
to the 21st
century. In
Dracula
Untold,
Mehmet II
seals his
demands on
Vlad with a
bloody
thumb-print,
and the
scene’s
final shot
is of the
Sultan’s
thumb on an
imperial
edict,
alongside a
stamp
bearing the
name of God
in Arabic
script. The
Sultan’s
cruelty then
is the will
of the
Muslim god,
who is out
to get your
children.
Today,
vilification
of Islam has
reached such
heights,
that even
when the
Sultan is
cast
opposite
history’s
bloodiest-psycho-tyrant,
it’s Dracula
who emerges
as the
tragic hero.

Developers
have
launched a
legal appeal
against the

decision to
reject a

a mosque at
Currumbin.
The planned
mosque
bitterly
divided the
community,
attracting
more than
3,500 public
objections.
Salsabil
Charitable
Organisation
lodged an
appeal in
the Planning

Court
yesterday,
five weeks
after the
council
rejected the
Currumbin

development.
The decision
drew cheers
from scores
of locals
who attended
the council
planning
meeting,
some of whom
had brought
along
placards
denouncing
Islam.
The Council
had
initially
approved the
mosque with
50
conditions,
but reneged
citing
community
concerns,
car parking
and opening
hours.
Salsabil had
been
planning to
transform an
old factory
at Currumbin
Waters into
a place of
worship.
President of
the Gold
Coast
Islamic
Society
Hussin Goss
said an
appeal had
been lodged
with the
Planning and
Environment
Court.
"Well we've
put our
papers into
appeal of
course and
we believe
there's a
good chance
of winning,"
he said.
"It is up to
Council now
to study and
go through
it but we've
got our
solicitors
working on
it and it'll
take
probably
three to six
months to
make it
happen."
Security
agencies are
reportedly
set to
investigate
if any
Muslims who
recently
left
Australia
for the
Mecca
pilgrimage
have joined
terror
groups
overseas.
About 5000
Muslims are
believed to
have left
Australia
last month
for the
annual Haji
pilgrimage,
which took
place in
early
October.
Security
agencies
will launch
an
investigation
next month
to identify
any Islamic
extremists
who may have
left the
country to
fight for
Islamic
State and
other terror
groups in
Syria, News
Corp
Australia
reports.
Authorities
won't know
for several
weeks
whether
Muslims who
left for
Mecca are
taking
holidays or
are involved
in something
more
sinister, a
senior
security
source told
News Corp.
Security
agencies are
reportedly
set to
investigate
each
Australian
who departed
the country
with the
intention of
attending
the Haji
pilgrimage
and who has
not yet
returned.
About 60
Australians
are fighting
with Islamic
State in
Syria and
Iraq, with
at least 100
others
offering
support and
70 who have
had their
passports
cancelled on
security
grounds.
One in four
Australians
holds a
negative
attitude
towards
Muslims, a
national
survey has
found.
The social
cohesion
report,
published by
Monash
University
and the
Scanlon
Foundation,
measured
public
attitudes on
issues like
immigration
and
multiculturalism.
It found
people were
five times
more likely
to hold
negative
attitudes
towards
Muslims than
any other
religious
group.
Report
author
Professor
Andrew
Markus said
the results
were
troubling.
"What we're
finding is
negativity
towards
Muslims is
five times
higher than
towards
Christians
and
Buddhists,
so there's
quite a
significant
issue
there," said
Professor
Markus.
"In a period
of increased
tension,
those who
are very
negative
may, more
likely, act
out their
negativity.
"They might
abuse people
on the
street and
so on. So
we're really
just talking
of a very
small
proportion
who act out
their
negativity,
but that's
the
concern," he
said.
The survey
was
conducted on
2,596 people
in June and
July, and
was the
seventh
annual
survey of
its kind.
Experience
of
discrimination
remained
close to the
highest
level
recorded at
18 per cent
since the
studies
began in
2007.
Of those who
reported
discrimination,
30 per cent
said it
happened at
least once a
month.
The report
listed a
"number of
demographic
variables"
in the
results,
with
respondents
aged 65 and
over four
times more
likely to
hold
negative
attitudes
towards
Muslims than
respondents
aged 18 to
24.
It also
stated
younger
residents of
Victoria

Abbott
Government
'needs to
change its
rhetoric'
Silma Irham
from the
Australian
Muslim
Women's
Association
said the
results were
not
surprising.
"There has
been so much
negativity
from the
media, from
the
government,"
she said.
"Until the
Federal
Government
changes its
rhetoric and
stops using
Muslims as
the cause of
hardships
facing the
population,
things
aren't going
to improve.
"The Muslim
community is

is
established,
there are
far more
Australian-born
Muslims, but
it is like
it still has
to sell
itself to
the [rest of
the]
community.
Australian attitudes in 2014
• 35% believe the immigration intake is too high
• 85% say multiculturalism is good for the country
• 18% of people experienced discrimination
• 36% had trust in government
• 4% were concerned about asylum seeker boat arrivals
Just when
you thought
the state of
political
discourse in
this country
couldn’t get
any lower,
along comes
a prankster
or three
trying to
infiltrate
Parliament
House
dressed as a
niqabi, a
bikie, and a
Ku Klux Klan
Grand
Wizard.
The three
men, from a
group called
“Faceless,”
which I’d
wager only
has three
members,
claim they
pulled the
stunt
yesterday to
protest the
wearing of
the burqa/niqab
in public.
They also
included the
mandatory
statement
about Islam
being
“contrary to
Australian
beliefs.”
Incredibly,
the men
claimed
allowing
women in
Islamic face
veils into
Parliament
House was
“sexist”
because
“you're
allowed to
wear a full
face
covering
into
Parliament
if you're a
Muslim woman
but no other
group is
allowed to
have that
same
privilege.”
I’ll get to
the
contradiction
of claiming
Muslim women
are
“privileged”
even as they
are pitied
for their
oppression
later. But
first, I
know the
temptation
to ignore
them and
hope they go
away is
strong, but,
as this
story is
making
international
news even as
I write
this, I
don’t think
we have that
luxury. So
let’s go
through the
many reasons
this stunt
is an
embarrassment
to us all,
and why we
should have
a zero
tolerance
attitude to
this sort of
ignorant -
and
dangerous -
buffoonery.
1. They
compare
Muslim women
to the Ku
Klux Klan.
2. They
equate the
burqa with a
motorcycle
helmet.
3. The
disregard
for victims
of the KKK
4. Their
issue isn’t
with the
oppression
of Muslim
women, it’s
with Muslim
women
themselves.

As
disturbing
as the
events in
Ottawa were,
we are
entitled to
ask whether
the
political
response
here in
Australia,
on the other
side of the
world, was
helpful or
merely
exploitative,
writes
Barrie
Cassidy
(pictured

The threat
of terrorism
is real, but
is it
exaggerated?
The need to
be vigilant
is obvious,
but do we
have to live
in fear?
Every time
someone goes
berserk
overseas, do
we have to
behave as if
it happened
around the
corner?
Why in 2014
is every act
by a crazed
gunman
immediately
interpreted
as an act of
terrorism?
And when
does the
rhetoric of
politicians
cross the
boundaries
from
sensible
public
safety and
security
warnings to
fear for the
sake of it?
As
disturbing
as the
events in
Ottawa were,
they could
have been
the actions
of a "lone
wolf" with a
criminal
history.
Even if it
turns out he
was part of
some sort of
organised
global
terror
attack -
what the
Prime
Minister,
Tony Abbott,
described in
the
Parliament
as part of
Islamic
State's "war
on the
world" - we
are still
entitled to
ask whether
the response
here in
Australia,
on the other
side of the
world, was
helpful or
merely
exploitative.
The
politicians
rushed to
the
microphones
to draw the
links with
Australia,
to underline
the
similarities
between the
two
countries,
and to
emphasise
how the same
thing could
so easily
happen here.
The
presiding
officers of
almost every
parliament
in the
country put
out
statements
on security.
Tony Abbott
gave an
interview
and followed
up with a
statement to
the
Parliament.
The
Opposition
Leader Bill
Shorten fell
in behind.
There was a
minute's
silence. How
often does
that happen
when a
soldier in
another
country dies
at the hands
of a gunman?
Of course
Australian
authorities
charged with
the safety
of the
public
should be
impacted and
instructed
by the
shootings in
Ottawa. Of
course
everybody is
disturbed
and alarmed
when these
shootings
happen.
But even so,
why did the
politicians
on both
sides of the
aisle feel
the need to
see to it
that every
Australian
shared the
fear that
they were so
ready to
express?
What are we
supposed to
do?
Why did the
politicians
tell us that
threats of a
17-year-old
Year 10
student
should leave
us
"chilled?"
The Courier
Mail, by
contrast,
ran a
headline:
"ISIS Aussie
terror
threat
backfires.
He's just a
very naughty
boy." A
"naughty
boy" that
one senator
- David
Leyonhjelm -
dismissed as
"an absolute
dickhead."

Front National councillor
urges French far-Right party to convert to
Islam
A far-right local
councillor shocks Marine Le Pen's party by
becoming a Muslim and sending Front National
officials a video in which he urges them to
embrace Islam
FRANCE: A Front National
local councillor has embarrassed France's
far-Right party by announcing his recent
conversion to Islam – and urging fellow
members to join him.
Maxence Buttey, 22, offended officials of
the anti-immigration party by sending them a
video in which he praised the "visionary"
virtues of the Koran and urged them to
become Muslims.
Mr Buttey, a councillor in the eastern Paris
suburb of Noisy-le-Grand, said the Front
National and Islam had much in common.
"Both are demonised and very far from the
image portrayed in the media," he told Le
Parisien newspaper. "Like Islam, the FN
defends the weakest. The party denounces
exorbitant interest rates charged on the
debt of our country, and Islam is against
the practice of usury."
Jordan Bardella, a local party secretary,
said Mr Buttey had been suspended from a
regional FN committee.
"Religion is a private choice
which I respect but it must not enter into
the sphere of our political activities. The
proselytising video which Maxence sent out
is unacceptable," Mr Bardella said.
However, Mr Buttey remains a party member
and a councillor. The party has no power to
sack him from the post.
"Some of my voters will be disappointed by
my choice," Mr Buttey admitted. "But I'm
ready to explain to them that Islam has a
mission to unite all men and women."
He said he found it difficult to believe the
"official" version of the September 11
attacks, adding that there was doubt about
the "Merah affair" -- referring to the
al-Qaeda inspired French gunman, Mohammed
Merah, who killed seven people in the south
of France in 2012.
"I am against the niqab [full-face veil],"
he said, adding that Islam did not call for
believers "to cut off heads as the Islamic
State group does."
Mr Buttey said he had decided to convert
after lengthy discussions with the local
imam, whom he met while campaigning for
election earlier this year.
"I was Catholic but when I reread the Bible
I noticed all its inconsistencies," he said.
"When I read the Koran thoroughly, I
understood that this religion is more open."
The leader of the Front National, Marine Le
Pen, has objected to schools serving Halal
meat for Muslim pupils, a controversial
issue in France, which has banned the
wearing of the full-face veil in public and
headscarves in state schools. It has
Europe's largest Muslim population,
estimated at six million.
Sahih al Bukhari, Fadhaail
A’maal, Fortress of a Muslim among books
shortlisted for banning in Russia
RUSSIA: A region of the world
laden with a rich Islamic legacy and that
gave rise to giants of Islamic scholarship
appears to be on a witch-hunt to censor
works of Islamic thought and reading
material.
In a supreme irony, the Sahih al Bukhari
compilation of Ahadeeth, considered the most
authentic book in Islam after the Qur’aan,
which was curated by Imam Muhammad ibn
Isma`il al-Bukhari RA, one of the wider
‘Russian’ Empire’s greatest sons, has now
been earmarked by some within the country
for banning due to its apparent “extremist”
nature.
Russian Muslims are incensed by the
development and have now reportedly formed a
commission against the proposed ban.
“It is nonsensical to ban the books of
hadith, Sahih Al-Bukhari, which is
particularly important for the Muslims,”
Russia Ulyanovsk Region’s Mufti Muhammed
Baibikov commented.
RUSSIA:
No bacon for breakfast, a room for prayers
and Quran on your bedside table: A hotel in
Moscow has launched a special “halal”
service as Russia tries to attract visitors
from the Muslim world.
“Around 70 per cent of our guests are from
overseas and 13 per cent of these — or some
5,000 people — come from Muslim countries,
especially Iran,” said Lyubov Shiyan,
marketing director at the Aerostar hotel.
“Our Muslim visitors were
constantly asking for a separate prayer room
or a special menu,” she said. “We wanted
everyone who came here to feel at home.”
To make that happen, the
hotel had to go through a rigorous procedure
before it could finally be certified halal
by Muslim officials in Russia and launch the
service this month.
Saudi Arabia’s Religious
Police Outlaw ‘Tempting Eyes’
SAUDI ARABIA: Sheikh Motlab
al Nabet, spokesman of Saudi Arabia’s
religious police, announced that the
Committee for the Promotion of Virtue and
the Prevention of Vice will cover any
women’s eyes that are deemed “tempting.”
“The men of the committee will interfere to
force women to cover their eyes, especially
the tempting ones” he said. “[We] have the
right to do so.”
What are “tempting” eyes? One
Saudi journalist mused on condition of
anonymity that they are “uncovered eyes with
a nice shape and makeup. Or even without
makeup, if they are beautiful, the woman
will be in trouble.”

KB says: My friend

all ingredients can be substituted for low fat

I served it for dessert after a meal of roast

really yummy.
Creme Caramel
Ingredients
1 tin condensed milk
2 tins full cream milk (or 1 tin milk and 1 tin
fresh cream or coconut cream)
1 tab. desiccated coconut
1 tsp caramel essence or vanilla essence
4 eggs separated
For Caramelizing
5 tab. sugar
1 tsp. water
A drop of lemon juice
Place all the
ingredients in a heavy saucepan on medium heat
and allow it to change into a light brown, be
careful it does not become too brown as it will
then taste bitter. Pour into your non-stick pan
and swirl around until it covers the base of
your pan.
Method
1. Beat egg whites
until stiff.
2. Beat remaining ingredients in a separate bowl
and fold in the whites gently.
3. Pour the mixture into your pan which has been
lined by the caramelized sugar and bake by
placing your pan into another larger one half
filled with water at 180degrees for approx. 1
hour. (to avoid browning too much on the top,
half way thru the baking process I covered the
pan with foil.
4. Let it cool completely at room temp and
transfer to fridge overnight or at least 4 hours
before serving as its best served very cold.
5. Run a knife around the pan and turn over. Can
be topped with cream or served as is.
Q: Dear Kareema, I need
some tips on staying on track with my fitness
goals. I’ve started working out a few months
ago, then took a break for a few weeks and now I
can’t seem to stick to a routine at all. Any
suggestions?
A: Don’t push yourself too hard.
The key is to challenge yourself
without pushing too hard, as you will tend to
lose your motivation and fitness drive.
Start easy and set small,
achievable goals.
Do activities that you enjoy and
enlist a workout buddy to keep you motivated.
Remember too that consistency and persistency is
important.

on Tango, buy your kids on Amazon and pay through
PayPal. And if you are fed up with your husband....sell
him on EBay".
