The Crescents & Lions Footy Show

Sunday 15 July 2007

Crescents of Brisbane, together with the Brisbane Lions and Multicultural Affairs Queensland, held an Aussie Rules clinic in Kuraby on Sunday at which over 150 turned up, many getting a taste of the game for their very first time.

Lions defender, Chris Johnson, showed off some of his skills to the appreciative crowd while the Lions mascot, Bernie “Gabba” Vegas, was at hand to bring a bit of levity to the proceedings.

The enthusiasm with which the youngsters took to the game was so infectious that many of the parents could not resist joining in on the action.

Some 100 complimentary tickets to Sunday's Lions/Carlton game at the Gabba were snapped up within a short while. The strong contingent of new Lions' supporters were specially welcomed and acknowledged on the Gabba's giant screens during the Sunday 22 July match.

Aussie Rules has just gained itself a whole new group of converts to the game!

Competition winners:

Zaheer Bassa (Jonathan Brown autographed footy)

Jamal Parker (Jonathan Brown autographed knapsack)

Kaab Rahman (Brisbane Lions scarf)

Crescents of Brisbane acknowledges the support of:

PROMOTION

The Crescents Aussie Rules Family Workshop

SUNDAY 15 July 2-4pm Kuraby Community Hall

Everything you ever wanted to know about Australian Rules Football....

.......but were too afraid to ask!

Like the basic rules of the game. And what it means when those men in white coats flash out their arms. And what's a Brownlow medal. And why there are four posts instead of two.  And who's Browny!

Crescents of Brisbane has organized a free informal and relaxed family information session afternoon in association with the Brisbane Lions at the Kuraby Community Hall on Sunday 15 July between 2 and 4pm.

Lions' representatives will take us through the basics of the game with a video commentary and answer any questions we may have. There will be portable posts on the ground and an opportunity for everyone, kids, mothers and all, to get a hands-on feel for the game.

A couple of the Lions' lads themselves might even drop in to say hello and sign a few posters.

And the main star of the afternoon will be the Lions Mascot, Bernie "Gabba" Vegas, who will be on hand to give out Lions packs and other goodies from his very distinctive van.

There are some fabulous autographed prizes to be won and Multicultural Affairs Queensland have sponsored 50 Premier complimentary tickets worth over $50 each to be given away at the workshop for the Lions/Carlton match at the Gabba on Sunday 22nd July.

The afternoon will be topped off with a scrumptious dinky di sausage BBQ and tea, coffee and cakes.

Bring the whole family along and learn enough about the game to help you appreciate why 18 grown men in tight shorts and tops run around an oval football pitch trying to get a prolate spheroid ball past four posts.
